4 E Fulton Building Renovation

Grand Rapids, Michigan // 7,840 sq. ft.

Client Challenge & TowerPinkster Solution

TowerPinkster and Locus Development (building owners) worked together to build and restore “4 East Fulton”, as it’s now called, to its original, minimally-detailed, art deco style as one of TowerPinkster’s own historic preservation projects. The building is located at the heart of art, education, design and commerce, a perfect home for the Grand Rapids office. The second floor (7,488 SF) was renovated to accommodate TowerPinkster’s new Grand Rapids office location and holds 35 employees, allowing for future growth. The space features an open-office environment showcasing flexible furniture systems from Haworth, as well as Haworth’s Workware which allows users to share content wirelessly, even remotely in real time. The office space also features a Teleprescence Conference System for offsite team collaboration.

4 East Fulton achieved LEED Platinum for Commercial Interiors and incorporates the following sustainable features:
• Reclaimed wood paneling made from salvaged shipping crates which came from various worldwide places to the shipyards of Portland, Oregon
• Furniture locally manufactured in Holland, Michigan, most of which has recycled content, upwards of 75%
• Countertops made from recycled metal shavings and others that incorporate energy-efficient LED lighting, as well as recycled content:
• 3D wall panels made with FSC-certified wood
• Use of cork – a rapidly renewable source
• Low-VOCs in carpet tile, solid surfacing and paint
• Low furniture panels and interior glass maximize the use of natural light

The project was completed in August of 2013 and has brought new life to another historic building in downtown Grand Rapids.
