Corewell Health Medical Group Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion

The challenge of this project was to provide the Gynecologic Oncology department with a suite that serves two separate services: general exam rooms for checkup appointments, and spaces dedicated to chemotherapy treatments. These functions are currently split between two locations within the Lemmen Holton Cancer Pavilion and are billed as two separate services. Regulations become a challenge for registration and check-in when billed by different groups.

This design solution encompassed an existing white box space on the sixth floor of the Lemmen Holton Cancer Pavilion. With beautiful views of the Butterworth campus and downtown Grand Rapids, the chemotherapy treatment area was designed to take advantage of the view. The design offers support and function to the perimeter of the space and provides a flexible seating/treatment area in the center. With the use of moveable furniture, the patient experience can be either private or as open to allow this small community of patients to communicate with each other during treatment. Exam rooms are located in the center of the space and utilize staff work avenues to provide flexibility in staff and patient scheduling.
