The residential development company, AVB Inc., has brought a commitment towards the quality building of residential communities through innovation and place-making for more than 30 years. The company’s most recent development is Walden Woods – a 24-unit enclave of duplex condominiums set amidst 80 acres of woodlands and rolling meadows just two miles west of downtown Kalamazoo. The property will include 40 acres of preserved wilderness, a walking trail, and a community clubhouse with a fitness center, and swimming pool which AVB commissioned TowerPinkster to design for the community.

Given the development’s proximity to Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College, the team desired to create a unique atmosphere to build on the life-long learning brand of its academic surroundings. Used as the sales center during the initial phase, the 5,500 square-foot clubhouse boasts a multi-purpose classroom and a demonstration kitchen that can be utilized by residents and guests and is available for community education programs.

In addition, the facility houses an open and flexible lounge space with comfortable seating which surrounds a warm stone fireplace for community gatherings and private events. The lounge opens onto a beautiful covered outdoor patio space complete with lounge furniture and overhead ceiling fans, creating a unique outdoor living room for socializing. The private fitness center and locker rooms connect to an outdoor pool and patio in a well-landscaped garden that overlooks the wooded wilderness beyond.
