Gerald R. Ford International Airport

Consolidated Checkpoint and Marketplace

Grand Rapids, Michigan // 57,000 sq. ft.

To improve and enhance passenger service, the Gerald R. Ford International Airport was in need of relocating the checkpoint area as well as right-sizing the pre and post-security concessions programs.

The solution provided by TowerPinkster and Architectural Alliance provides a gracious and more functional checkpoint and re-composure area, creating a grand, civic space with panoramic views of the airfield. The Main Terminal received a 57,000 SF expansion on the east side. The marketplace level includes a seven-lane consolidated checkpoint (five lanes built immediately and two future lanes). There are also prominently located retail concepts, a full-service restaurant, and additional seating. Offices are housed on the second floor with views overlooking the marketplace and sightlines through to the airfield.
