Kalamazoo, Michigan // 30,480 sq. ft.

With goals to enhance citizen access to programs and services, increase safety and security and reduce maintenance costs, Kalamazoo County’s Facilities Master Plan identified opportunities to relocate several departments into County-owned facilities.

TowerPinkster provided the new program and worked with Eckert Wordell to create a new facility adjacent to the County Jail. The design features meeting areas, conference rooms, offices, and space for drug testing. A public security screening lobby leads to three separate suites for the various departments and program components:

  • Video Visitation – Rather than entering the jail to visit inmates face-to-face, the video visitation booths eliminate the public from having direct contact with inmates. Inmate and visitor movement is reduced, which saves time and increases safety.
  • Community Corrections – The Office of Community Corrections can operate more efficiently when it is within the same facility as the Probation and Parole offices.
  • MDOC Probation and Parole Offices – The new location is more secure and allows staff the ability to collaborate between departments easily.
