Stalker School Apartments

Bedford, Indiana // 32,823 sq. ft.

The former Stalker elementary school in Bedford, Indiana, built in 1899, was abandoned and in a state of severe disrepair when TowerPinkster was selected to restore the building into 18 low-income family housing apartments. An elevator was added, along with extensive site work to create an accessible main entrance. The originally terrazzo floors, structural clay tile corridor walls, and stairways were all restored. The oriel window and limestone pediment at the historic front entrance had been removed and were boarded over. These were both re-built using old photos as a guide. The grounds were also restored with new lawns, a new parking lot, and a new playground.
