At an event on June 17 at the Masonic Temple in Detroit, we celebrated with other AIA members and Honor Award winners. Our ongoing commitment to community. For nearly 70 years, TowerPinkster has made significant contributions to our communities through our commitment to quality, sustainable, and equitable design. Our firm has demonstrated design excellence through its success of several major projects impacting the culture, health, and education of our state’s people and public and private spaces. A few of these notable projects include the renovation and LEED certification of Western Michigan University’s Heritage Hall, the New Veteran’s Homes at Chesterfield and Grand Rapids, the renovation and addition to USGBC 2021 Green Building of the Year Aquinas College’s Albertus Magnus Hall of Science, the recently completed Warner Building in downtown Kalamazoo, and currently, the major renovations at the Grand Rapids Public Museum. Pushing for continuous improvement and learning. These achievements are just a facet of our organization. As much as we put into our projects, we invest in our talented people. Our culture is founded on collaboration, curiosity, integrity, and quality and each of these values is a driving force behind our success. As a culture-first firm, we have implemented sustainability principles like our 2030 AIA Commitment and engaged with Global Bridge Builders to improve our efforts in becoming a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive firm. These efforts are continuous, and we are committed to doing the work to refine and adapt our culture for the better. In fact, since 2016 we have earned recognition from the Zweig Group as one of the best firms to work in the nation. Celebrating 70 Years in 2023. It’s hard to believe, but our 70th anniversary is right around the corner. In 2023, we’ll celebrate seven decades of impact on the communities where we live, work, and play. It’s incredible to think about all the projects we’ve touched over the years. Our history includes exciting projects, big moves, and quite a few different names. Here’s a sneak peek: 1953 – The firm is founded by Raymond Stapert, Herman Pratt, Alfrad Bulthus, and George Sprau. 1956 – Jerry Pinkster joins the firm as a draftsman. Key project wins include St. Marks Roman Catholic Church and a 1.3-million-dollar bond project with Plainwell Schools. 1968 – Bob Tower joins the firm. 1978 – The firm changes its name to Tower Pinkster Associates. 1981 – The firm’s name is changed to Tower Pinkster Titus Associates, Inc. The firm is ranked in the top 100 fastest growing small companies by Michigan Business Magazine. 1990 – The first Grand Rapids office is opened. Jerry Pinkster retires. 2000 – Bob Tower retires. 2005 – Arnie Mikon, FAIA, is named CEO of the firm. 2006 – The firm goes through its final rebrand and becomes TowerPinkster. 2014 – TowerPinkster is named Firm of the Year by AIA Grand Rapids. Key project win is the renovation of Heritage Hall at Western Michigan University. 2016 – Bjorn Green is named CEO of the firm following Arnie’s retirement. The firm wins a new office project with a global medical technology company and is named one of the “Best Firms to Work For” by Zweig. 2021 – TowerPinkster merges with Kovert Hawkins Architects in Jeffersonville, IN, and Louisville, KY. 2022 – The firm opens a new office in Grand Haven, MI and is name Firm of the Year by AIA Michigan. 2023 – Celebrating 70 years of great design in 2023!
